Heartstrings Day 2011

Organized since 2007, the Alumni Heartstrings Day (this is the 5th year running) is an annual event by the Ping Yi Alumni to engage a group of secondary one students. This year, a community involvement element was added to allow the alumni and the students to reach out to the elderly community in the Chai Chee neighbourhood.

As part of the Alumni Heartstrings Day activities, a group of secondary one students were taught the skill of making terrariums by 4 of their seniors (participants from the 2007 Heartstrings Day) and members of the Environmental Club on 9 July 2011. After the terrarium making session, the students were treated to a sumptuous lunch at Plaza Singapura’s Manhattan Fish Market.

After lunch, the students were hosted by Mr Nicholas Chee, Founder of Sinema (Alumnus from Class of 1996) to a special screening of two short films by budding local filmmaker Lee Chee Tien at Old School in Mount Sophia.

On 23 July 11 (Sat), members of the alumni and the same group of secondary one students brought joy and laughter to 80 elderly folks from the Senior Activity in Chai Chee. The students transferred their learning by teaching the elderly how to make their own terrariums. In addition, the elderly were treated to a dance performance by the students and a host of magic tricks performed by an alumni member.

Below are some pictures take at Sinema for your viewing pleasure.
